The doors, hood, trunk and front and rear fenders are shared with the standard Ion. It uses the speakers wires on the wiring harness for audio inputs. To use the AAS amp, I had to run a line level converter to knock the signal down for the AAS amp. I used 4ohm standard ones and it sounds fine, just a little quieter. My car has AAS, I was able to easily put an aftermarket system in. AAS adds door mounted tweeters and a seperate amp in the trunk. The upper level sound system is called AAS (advanced audio system). Like the S series, it uses a double din spot for the stereo, with 4 6 1/2" speakers. From what I read, drivetrain loss seems to be quite low, around 8%.Ĭheck out the LCAs. Mine is stock besides I/H/E and its really fast! My last car was around the same weight with 20HP more, but the redline is considerably faster. They do seem to be faster than the listed HP. This decreased pump life and performance. Some Redlines came with the pump wired backwards from the factory. Its an electric pump that circulates coolant through the intake manifold to cool the charged air. The intercooler pumps go out quite commonly. Plus it leaves the area in front of the wheel open for more gauges! The whole dash is really a blank slate when it come to adding gauges, HUD, backup cam, etc. It looks a little odd, but its nice not to have the wheel block the gauges. Little by little, It's getting back to good. Being a turbo, an aftermarket adjustable blowoff valve might improve boost response between shifts, bit no lift shift might make this unnecessary, idk. This is achievable with just a tune, so the potential with an intake, exhaust, ect. A competent person with hp tuners should e able to achieve similar numbers. Trifecta, when they were around, we're able to get 375hp out of these engines. The css tc has a high tech engine with direct injection, a well engineered in block turbo system with vvt and a second generation engine block. The suspension from the cobalt can be added to a redline. To get this power requires option b, dual pass end plate, injectors, a tvs supercharger I believe, a pulley, and a tune. The lsj never changed, it's a fairly simple engine, and is good for relatively reliable power up to around 350hp, afaik. #Ion redline driversMoving to the cobalt ss tc you get bluetooth (new radio), new suspension to better handle the power, no lift shift, launch control, toe pressure monitoring system, advanced drivers information center, and possibly more. Afaik, the only things to change in the Redlines are:Ģ005: new firewall and windshields for quieter ride, and new interior for increased leg room.Ģ007: leather seats from non Redlines for passenger airbag sensor. Our Dynojet revealed the truth, which is an impressive 197 hp at the wheels at 6450 rpm and 169 lb-ft at 5250 rpm.04 coupes with automatic transmissions are unreliable. The Performance Division destroked the engine, lowered its compression ratio from 10:1 to 9.5:1, bolted on a Roots-type supercharger (making 12.5 pounds of boost), stuffed in a Laminova air-to-water intercooler, and underrated it at 200 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. That supercharged engine is a 2.0-liter version of the Ecotec four-cylinder, which is now powering all of GM's small cars in normally aspirated 2.2-liter form. They even managed to radically improve the car's electrically assisted steering and keep the price just under $20,000 in the process. They did this by supercharging the Red Line's engine, and tuning its chassis on the famed Nuerburgring circuit in Germany. That job was to transform that hemorrhoid of a car into a more refined machine that performs as good as or better than the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, Acura RSX Type-S, SVT Focus and MINI Cooper S. So if you consider what they had to start with, the engineers in the GM Performance Division should all be commended for a job well done. It's slow and crude, with the worst steering since the 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile, which was steered by a tiller. The ION, in its non-Red Line garb, is simply one of the most disappointing cars we've ever driven. They're the fault of the boneheads who designed the Saturn ION in the first place. In defense of the capable team of engineers that make up the recently formed GM Performance Division, most of the Red Line's flaws are not their fault. These problems range from the truly unfixable, like the car's huge 185-inch length, to the fixable, like a tachometer that's always 800 rpm behind the motor.
